Making the cut.
Bernie Rede is recognized throughout the gymnastics community as one of the top coaches in the country. With over ten years coaching experience he is truly a master of the sport. His strength, agility, and keen eye contribute to his most noted trait - his amazing spotting ability! Here at Flagstaff Gymnastics he designed a developmental program for young gymnasts that safely progresses them through the gymnastic levels at an accelerated rate. We implement this program in our invitational teams known as Tumblebugs, Hot Shots, All Stars and Pre-Team. He also put into place the Star Program for all students to achieve success in the sport of gymnastics. We are honored to have him on our team.
I started gymnastics at the age of two in Phoenix and continued training here at Flagstaff Gymnastics Center through Level 8. I am a two time Arizona State Gymnastic Champion; first taking the overall title for Level 5 in all age divisions and then Level 6 for my own age division. I have always loved to spend my summers traveling and have trained at Bela Karolyi’s Gymnastic Camp, PGA’s Camp in Prescott, Extreme’s Mingus Mountain Camp, and Santa Barbara’s Jr. Olympic Camp. While training for gymnastics, I also pursued my love for dance with the Royal Academy of Dance and the Tempe Dance Academy. Through Dance Masters of Arizona I was awarded in the teen division 1st Place Tap, 2nd Place Jazz, and 2nd Place Ballet for the State of Arizona. I have danced with the Boston Ballet, the American Ballet Theater, the Malibu Ballet, and the RAD Ballet in Long Beach. In 2005 I was awarded the title of Arizona State Cinderella Teen. Recently, I was one of three in the nation to take the RAD’s prestigious Solo Seal Examination. With all of my accomplishment and training, my greatest love is coaching. It is an honor and a privilege to coach your children.
Lauren started gymnastics at 3 years old and was a competitive gymnast at Arrowhead Spinetts Gymnastics in Peoria until she was 16. As a junior and senior at Sandra Day O’Connor High School, she was President of the Dance Team and a coach at Arrowhead Spinetts. She coached gymnasts from 2 to 18 years old, from tots to level 5. She graduated high school in 2005 and moved to Flagstaff to attend Northern Arizona University, where she dual majored in Photography and Advertising. She earned her Bachelor of Science in December of 2009, but chose to stay in Flagstaff where she loves the town and her gymnasts! Coaching gymnastics is her biggest passion so she is very thankful for the privilege of coaching your children!
Gymnastics has been a part of my life for more than 25 years. I started gymnastics in Northern California when I was 3 years old and competed in levels 5 through 10. I competed at the Level 9 Western Championships in 1998 and competed at the Junior Olympic Level 10 National Championships in 1999, 2000, and 2001. I placed 4th on Vault, 10th on Uneven Bars, and 7th All-Around in 2001. I was also the Region 1 Bars Champion in 2001. I earned a full athletic scholarship to Oregon State University where I competed in the NCAA Division 1 National Championships in 2002. After college I moved to Flagstaff with my husband Aaron and started coaching gymnastics. I have coached gymnastics for five years and I love sharing my knowledge and love for the sport. I am safety certified and a USAG Professional Member.
I was born and raised in Flagstaff, Arizona. I was on the Coconino High School Dance Team, and earned an AAS in Dance and an AA in General Studies from Coconino Community College. I have twirled baton for 12 years and was the Feature Baton Twirler for Northern Arizona University from 2008 to 2011. I am currently still actively competing in state competitions, and have taken first place in the Grand State Dance Twirl for the past 5 years. As a baton coach, I am Level 1 Coach Certified and Level 1 Judge Certified. I started gymnastics at Firebirds Gymnastics at 6 years old and then moved to Peaks Gymnastics where my parents co-owned. I moved to Flagstaff Gymnastics where I trained to Level 8. I coached at Bounce and Birthdays for 3 years, and when they shut down in 2009 began coaching at Flagstaff Gymnastics Center. I still keep up with tumbling skills at the gym and am USAG Safety Certified.
My gymnastics career began at age ten here at the Flagstaff Gymnastics Center. Competitively, I went up to level six; however, I trained up to level seven. At the level five state championships I earned first place on the men's high bar, and second place on the floor apparatus. My gymnastics career ended when I decided to pursue wrestling and track and field. I am part of the 2013 graduating class at Flagstaff High School, as well as a full-time college student at Coconino Community College. My goal at the community college is to have completed 45+ college credit hours by the time I graduate high school. After I graduate high school I plan to attend the University of Arizona, attend medical school, and ultimately I plan to begin a career in cardiothoracic surgery.
I am a junior at Northern Arizona University majoring in Elementary Education. Working with kids and coaching have always been passions of mine. This has always seemed to be the perfect job because I get to work with children and still have gymnastics as a part of my life. I went to Desert Lights Gymnastics for 6 years and knew that being a gymnast was what I wanted to do. After I retired I couldn’t completely give up gymnastics so I began coaching at Desert Lights and absolutely loved it. When I graduated high school and moved for college, I began coaching here at Flagstaff Gymnastics Center. I am so excited to be coaching again. I will always be a gymnast at heart and will always enjoy passing on my knowledge and love for the sport to any gymnast.
